Haaland Questions Fixture Load Amidst Goal Drought

Football

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland has questioned the demanding fixture schedule after a recent dip in his prolific goal-scoring form.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has endured a difficult run, scoring only one goal in his last eight competitive matches. This solitary goal came from a penalty against Brighton on 7 January. His last non-penalty goal was recorded on 20 December. The Norwegian forward failed to score again during City's 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bodo/Glimt on Wednesday.

Haaland commented on his workload, stating, "I'm on the pitch quite often because we play a ridiculous amount of games." He accepted "full responsibility" for his lack of goals and apologised to supporters, calling the Bodo/Glimt result "embarrassing". Despite this recent slump, Haaland has scored 26 goals across all competitions this season. He has played 30 of City's 32 matches, accumulating more minutes than any other player in the squad. Earlier, in July 2024, Haaland suggested players struggle to maintain sharpness when playing over 70 games annually.
