England captain Leah Williamson has signed a contract extension with Arsenal, the club announced on Thursday.

England captain Leah Williamson has signed a new contract extension with Arsenal Women. The 27-year-old defender joined the club's academy at the age of nine and has since made 232 appearances for the first team. Williamson has won one Women's Super League title, four League Cups, and two FA Cups during her tenure in North London, according to Arsenal.

She becomes the fourth senior player to commit her future to the club recently. Arsenal previously announced new deals for captain Kim Little, Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius, and Australian international Steph Catley, per Sky Sports. Williamson recently returned to action following an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept her out of the 2023 World Cup.

Arsenal currently sit third in the Women's Super League table, trailing leaders Manchester City and second-placed Chelsea, according to The Guardian. The club did not disclose the specific length of the new agreement. Williamson has captained the Lionesses to victory at the European Championships in 2022.
