Jamie Vardy has spoken about the difficulties of transitioning from non-league football to the Premier League. The Leicester City striker told The Athletic that the process of refining himself was a killer on his body and mind. Vardy spent his early career playing for Stocksbridge Park Steels before moving through the divisions with Halifax Town and Fleetwood Town.
His agent, John Morris, described the player's early years as those of a raw, caged animal, according to Sky Sports. Morris noted that Vardy previously combined his football career with working in a factory and was known for drinking and fighting. The striker eventually signed for Leicester City in 2012 for a fee of £1m.
Since then, Vardy has won the Premier League title and scored more than 100 goals in the division. He admitted that the discipline required at the highest level was significantly different from his experiences in the lower leagues. The 39-year-old continues to represent Leicester City in the 2025-26 season.
