West Brom docked two points for financial breach

West Bromwich Albion have received an immediate two-point penalty for breaching the English Football League's sustainability rules.

The English Football League (EFL) has deducted two points from West Bromwich Albion for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules. An independent Club Financial Review Panel (CFRP) determined that the club exceeded the permitted £39m loss threshold over a three-year period ending June 2025. The penalty applies immediately to the 2025-26 Championship season.

West Brom dropped from 18th to 20th place following the sanction, according to ITV News. They now sit six points above the relegation zone with two matches remaining. The club claimed the breach was less than £2m and described it as the smallest in the history of these regulations, per the club's official website.

Albion contested the findings, attributing the breach to a change in how the EFL calculates community development expenditure. The club stated they are considering an appeal against the decision. For now, the team remains under the guidance of interim manager James Morrison as they seek to secure their league status.
