Leyton Orient head coach Richie Wellens criticised his squad's mentality after the club concluded their League One season. Speaking to the media after a 1-0 defeat against Blackpool, Wellens described his players as weak and claimed they wasted a year of his managerial career. The result left the club in 11th place in the final league standings, according to Sky Sports.
Wellens stated that the team lacked the necessary character and work rate to progress further during the campaign. He expressed frustration at the inconsistency of the squad throughout the second half of the season. Orient finished the year with 65 points from 46 matches, as reported by the Evening Standard.
The manager suggested that significant changes to the playing staff are required during the summer transfer window. Wellens indicated that he intends to recruit players with stronger mental attributes to improve the club's performance next term. The O's secured 18 victories but suffered 17 defeats over the course of the 2023-24 league season.
