Wales maintained their unbeaten start to the Women's European Championship qualifying campaign with a narrow 1-0 win against Albania. According to the Football Association of Wales, a first-half strike from Jess Fishlock proved enough to secure three points at the Loro Borici Stadium. The result leaves Wales at the top of Group B4 after two matches.
Manager Rhian Wilkinson noted that the performance lacked clinical finishing despite Wales dominating possession throughout the contest. Albania defended in a deep block which restricted clear scoring opportunities for the visiting side. Per Sky Sports, Wales registered over 20 shots during the match but failed to extend their lead beyond the single goal.
The victory follows an opening 4-0 win against Croatia in Wrexham earlier this month. Wales next face back-to-back fixtures against Ukraine in late May and early June. Wilkinson's squad aims to reach their first major tournament and currently leads the standings on goal difference, as reported by The Guardian.
