Rhian Wilkinson has called on her Wales squad to step up after midfielder Ceri Holland was ruled out of the upcoming Women's World Cup qualifier. The Liverpool player remains unavailable for the fixture in Shkoder due to a calf injury sustained during club duty, according to FAW. Holland also missed the previous qualifying match against Croatia.
Wilkinson stated that while Holland is a significant loss for the team, the situation provides an opportunity for other members of the 23-player group to prove their worth. The head coach emphasised the importance of squad depth as Wales aim to maintain their position at the top of the qualifying group, per Sky Sports.
Wales travelled to Albania on Monday ahead of the match scheduled for Tuesday evening. Jess Fishlock and Sophie Ingle are expected to lead the midfield in Holland's absence. The medical staff continue to monitor the fitness of several other players, but Wilkinson confirmed no further withdrawals from the travelling party, according to The Guardian.
