Athletic Club announced on Tuesday that Edin Terzic will take charge of the men's first team from next season. The 43-year-old German has signed a contract in Bilbao until June 30, 2028, per the club's official website. He succeeds Ernesto Valverde, who previously confirmed he would step down at the end of the current campaign.
Terzic has been without a club since leaving Borussia Dortmund following the 2024 Champions League final. He won the DFB-Pokal with the Bundesliga side in 2021 and finished as runner-up in the 2022-23 league season. The former West Ham assistant will be officially presented at the start of the new term, according to Reuters.
Athletic currently occupy eighth place in the La Liga standings with four matches remaining. The club statement noted that current focus remains on the final stretch of the season as they pursue European qualification. Terzic becomes the first manager appointed under the presidency of Jon Uriarte since Valverde's return in 2022.
