Tottenham Hotspur climbed out of the Premier League relegation zone following a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur moved into 17th place after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park. The result lifted the North London club out of the relegation zone with three matches remaining in the season. According to the Premier League, Spurs now sit one point ahead of 18th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Son Heung-min opened the scoring for the visitors before James Maddison doubled the lead in the second half. Ollie Watkins scored a late goal for Villa, but the hosts could not find an equaliser. The defeat leaves Villa in fifth position, trailing fourth-placed Arsenal by three points in the race for Champions League qualification.

Data from Opta suggests Nottingham Forest and Luton Town are now the favourites for the drop. Burnley remain bottom of the table following their recent run of form. Tottenham next face West Ham United, while Forest travel to Chelsea. Per Sky Sports, the battle for survival remains mathematically open for five clubs in the bottom half of the table.
