The Owls secured a home victory on the final day of the Championship season following news of a club takeover by American investors.

Sheffield Wednesday defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at Hillsborough on Saturday. Nathaniel Chalobah opened the scoring in the 36th minute after a set piece, according to West Bromwich Albion. Captain Liam Palmer doubled the lead four minutes later with a left-footed strike following a corner.

The match took place amid the announcement of a takeover by American consortium Arise Capital Partners, per OneFootball. This agreement led the EFL to withdraw a potential 15-point deduction previously facing the club for the next season.

West Bromwich Albion reduced the deficit in the 82nd minute when Karlan Grant scored from close range. Despite 10 minutes of added time, the hosts maintained their lead to secure only their second win of the campaign. The result leaves Sheffield Wednesday at the bottom of the Championship table in 24th place, while West Bromwich Albion finish the season in 21st position. Former manager Danny Rohl previously left the club by mutual consent in August 2025, according to Sky Sports.
