Sheffield Wednesday will start the upcoming Championship season without a points penalty. The club previously faced a 15-point deduction following an English Football League (EFL) investigation into financial misconduct. This investigation centred on the sale of the Hillsborough stadium to club owner Dejphon Chansiri.
An independent disciplinary commission ruled in favour of the club, according to Sky Sports. The commission found that the club did not breach Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) during the period in question. Consequently, the Owls avoid the suspended points penalty that fans had feared would impact their next campaign.
The EFL confirmed it would not appeal the decision, per reports from The Guardian. The club stated it was pleased with the outcome and remains focused on squad development for the 2026-27 season. This ruling ends several months of legal uncertainty for the South Yorkshire side. The team finished the previous season in the mid-table positions of the Championship standings.
