Ramsgate sack Lee Martin over recruitment spend

Non-league club Ramsgate have dismissed manager Lee Martin following a dispute regarding player recruitment budgets.

Isthmian League South East Division side Ramsgate dismissed manager Lee Martin on 17 April. The club cited an underspend on the playing squad as a primary reason for the departure, according to KentOnline. Despite the team sitting in second place in the table, the board expressed concerns regarding the utilisation of the recruitment budget.

Martin took over as manager in 2024 after a playing career that included spells at Manchester United and Millwall. The club confirmed the decision followed discussions about the direction of the first team. Chairman James Lawson stated that the squad required further investment to secure promotion objectives, per Isle of Thanet News.

Assistant manager Seb Tidey will take charge of the team for the remainder of the season. Ramsgate currently pursue a play-off place as they seek promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division. The club board remains committed to increasing expenditure on the playing staff to achieve its long-term goals, according to official club statements.
