Wes Morgan has expressed his sadness at Leicester City's relegation to League One, a decade after he led the club to the Premier League title. The former captain described the situation as difficult to watch, according to Sky Sports. The Foxes were relegated from the Championship following a 4-1 defeat by Preston North End on Tuesday.
The result leaves Leicester in the third tier for only the second time in their history. Morgan stated that the club's current position is a far cry from the 5,000-1 title success achieved in 2016. He noted that the downfall felt personal due to his long association with the King Power Stadium, per The Guardian.
Leicester City had returned to the Championship in 2023 but suffered consecutive relegations to reach this point. The club now prepares for life in League One for the first time since the 2008-09 campaign. Morgan remains one of the most decorated players in the history of the club, having also won the FA Cup in 2021.
