Manchester City midfielder Laura Coombs has confirmed her retirement from professional football at the end of the 2025-26 season. The 35-year-old midfielder informed the club of her decision after more than five years in Manchester. Coombs joined the club from Liverpool in 2019 and has made over 100 appearances for the side, according to Manchester City.
During her tenure, Coombs helped the team secure the Women's FA Cup in 2020 and the Continental Cup in 2022. Her career began at Arsenal, and she later represented Chelsea and Liverpool before moving to the Academy Stadium. On the international stage, she earned caps for England and featured in the squad that reached the 2023 World Cup final, per The Guardian.
Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor praised the midfielder for her contribution to the squad over several seasons. Coombs stated that she felt it was the right time to stop playing. She remains available for the final matches of the Women's Super League campaign as Manchester City pursues the domestic title.
