Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has received an extra one-match ban from the Football Association. The sanction means the England international is unavailable for the upcoming trip to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, per Sky Sports. The defender was already serving a suspension but will now miss an additional fixture due to his conduct during a recent match against Everton.
The Football Association charged Maguire with using improper, abusive, or insulting words toward a match official after his dismissal at Goodison Park. An independent regulatory commission upheld the charge following a hearing this week, according to The Guardian. The commission also imposed a fine of £20,000 on the centre-back.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must now reorganise his defence for the match against Chelsea. The club currently sits in sixth place in the Premier League table. Maguire has made 12 appearances for the club this season and will be eligible to return for the following fixture against Crystal Palace, according to the Premier League.
