Jesse Lingard has become the first British player to score in Brazil's domestic cup competition, the Copa do Brasil.

The former England forward Jesse Lingard scored for Corinthians in their Copa do Brasil fixture against Cianorte. His strike makes him the first British footballer to find the net in the history of the tournament, according to Corinthians. Lingard joined the Sao Paulo club earlier this season following a period in South Korea with FC Seoul.

His goal helped the Brazilian side progress in the knockout competition. The club confirmed the milestone via its official social media channels, noting the unique nature of a British player scoring in the domestic cup. Lingard has now appeared for several clubs across four different countries during his professional career.

He previously played for Manchester United, West Ham United, and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The attacker earned 32 caps for England before moving abroad to continue his playing career, per Sky Sports. Corinthians currently play their home matches at the Neo Quimica Arena in Sao Paulo.
