The Rangers captain James Tavernier has announced he will depart the Ibrox club when his contract ends this summer.

James Tavernier confirmed he will leave Rangers at the end of the current season. The 34-year-old defender joined the Glasgow club in July 2015 and has spent 11 years at Ibrox, according to Sky Sports. During his tenure, he led the team to a Scottish Premiership title and reached the 2022 Europa League final.

Tavernier has made 460 appearances for the club, scoring 125 goals from the right-back position. He served as captain since 2018. Rangers currently sit second in the Scottish Premiership table, three points behind leaders Celtic with four matches remaining, per figures from ESPN.

The defender previously played for Wigan Athletic before moving to Scotland for a reported fee of £200,000. Manager Philippe Clement praised Tavernier for his professionalism and service to the institution. The club has not yet confirmed a replacement for the captaincy. Tavernier stated he intends to seek a new challenge elsewhere once the campaign concludes, according to The Guardian.
