St Mirren defender Alex Gogic described the treatment of teammate Ryan Mullen as disgraceful after the club exited the Scottish Cup on Sunday. The Paisley side suffered a 6-2 defeat by Celtic at Hampden Park. Mullen stood in for first-choice goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe, who was ineligible to play against his parent club.
Gogic stated that supporters targeted the 25-year-old goalkeeper with verbal abuse during and after the match. According to Sky Sports, Gogic urged fans to remain united rather than singling out individuals for criticism. The defender noted that the entire team shared responsibility for the result in Glasgow.
St Mirren reached the semi-final stage after defeating Aberdeen in the previous round. Per The Guardian, the defeat ends the club's hopes of a first Scottish Cup final appearance since 1987. Management confirmed that Mullen had performed well in earlier rounds of the competition. The club currently sits in the top half of the Scottish Premiership table as the season approaches its conclusion.
