Michael Eneramo, the former Nigeria international, has died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest during a friendly match.

Former Nigeria international Michael Eneramo died on 24 April after collapsing during a friendly match, according to reports from Sky Sports. The 40-year-old forward suffered a suspected cardiac arrest while playing in the fixture. Medical staff were unable to revive the striker at the scene.

Eneramo earned 10 caps for the Super Eagles and scored three goals for the national side. He enjoyed a prolific club career, most notably with Tunisian side Esperance de Tunis where he became the club's highest ever foreign goalscorer. The striker also played for several clubs in Turkey, including Sivasspor and Besiktas, per ESPN.

He won multiple league titles in Tunisia and finished as the league's top scorer on two occasions. Tributes have started to arrive from across the football community for the powerful forward. The Nigerian Football Federation expressed its sadness at the loss of the former international player earlier today. Eneramo had recently moved into coaching following his retirement from professional football in 2018.
