Nottingham Forest defeated Sunderland 5-0 at the Stadium of Light to significantly boost their Premier League survival hopes.

Nottingham Forest moved eight points clear of the relegation zone following a 5-0 victory over Sunderland on Friday. Vítor Pereira's side scored four goals during the first half at the Stadium of Light. The scoring began after 17 minutes when Igor Jesus' header deflected into the net off Trai Hume for an own goal.

Chris Wood doubled the lead after 31 minutes following a mistake by Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs. Morgan Gibbs-White added a third three minutes later, before Jesus volleyed home a fourth in the 37th minute. Elliot Anderson completed the scoring with a fifth goal during second-half stoppage time.

The result leaves Forest in 16th place with 39 points, according to The Guardian. Sunderland remain 11th in the table with 46 points. Per the Premier League, the defeat leaves West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur as the primary candidates to fill the final relegation spot, as Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers are already relegated.
