A court in the Netherlands has rejected a legal challenge regarding the eligibility of a dual-citizenship player in the Eredivisie.

A Dutch court dismissed a legal challenge by NAC Breda to replay a league fixture due to the alleged ineligibility of an opposition player. The ruling prevents more than 130 Eredivisie matches from being scrutinised for similar administrative issues, per Reuters. The KNVB, the Dutch football association, had faced pressure to review several match results involving players with dual citizenship.

NAC Breda argued that the opposition fielded a player whose registration did not comply with specific residency requirements. However, the court found the Dutch FA followed existing protocols for dual-citizenship eligibility at the time of the fixture. This decision provides clarity for the league standings as the season approaches its conclusion.

The ruling ensures that results on the pitch remain final despite administrative disputes over player status. According to De Telegraaf, the KNVB welcomed the decision as it maintains the integrity of the domestic competition. The league will now proceed without the need for mass re-scheduling of previous fixtures.
