Dunfermline Athletic secured a place in the Scottish Cup final following a penalty shootout victory over Falkirk at Hampden Park.

Dunfermline Athletic reached their first Scottish Cup final since 2007 by defeating Falkirk on penalties. The match ended 0-0 after extra time before the Fife side won the shootout 4-3. Manager Neil Lennon described the achievement as being equal to anything he has accomplished in his career, according to Sky Sports.

Goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet saved two penalties to ensure the victory for the Championship side. The result maintains Dunfermline’s pursuit of their first major trophy since 1968. Falkirk, who recently secured the League One title, failed to convert their final two spot-kicks after a defensive performance.

Lennon praised the resilience of his squad following the 120-minute contest, per STV News. The Pars now await the winner of the second semi-final between Celtic and St Mirren, scheduled for Sunday. The final will take place at Hampden Park on 23 May. This victory marks the first time a team from outside the top flight has reached the final since 2016, per the Scottish FA.
