Scotland sees its first three-sided title battle since 1983 as Celtic, Rangers, and Hearts compete for the Premiership trophy.

The current Scottish Premiership season marks the first three-way battle for the title since the 1982-83 campaign. During that season, Dundee United, Celtic, and Aberdeen entered the final day with a chance to win the league. Dundee United secured their only top-flight title by defeating local rivals Dundee 2-1 at Dens Park, according to the Scottish Professional Football League.

Eamonn Bannon and Ralph Milne scored the goals that ensured Jim McLean's side finished one point ahead of both Celtic and Aberdeen. Celtic beat Rangers 4-2 on the final day, while Aberdeen defeated Hibernian 2-1, but neither result was enough to overtake the leaders.

Per Sky Sports, the 1983 triumph remains the last time a club from outside the Old Firm won the Scottish league title. This year, Hearts have joined Rangers and Celtic in the race for the trophy. Recent results show the three sides separated by narrow margins as the season enters its final stages, per the Guardian.
