Chelsea forward Jesse Derry expressed gratitude after being hospitalised with a head injury during his full Premier League debut on Monday.

Jesse Derry was taken to hospital following a collision with Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott at Stamford Bridge. The 18-year-old winger received oxygen on the pitch during a 10-minute stoppage before being stretchered off in the 44th minute, according to Sky Sports. Chelsea confirmed the academy graduate was conscious and talking while undergoing precautionary checks.

Derry described his first start as a "dream come true" in a social media statement on Tuesday. The teenager won a penalty during the incident, but Matz Sels saved the resulting spot-kick from Cole Palmer. Nottingham Forest eventually secured a 3-1 victory with two goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and a penalty by Igor Jesus, per The Guardian.

Chelsea remain in ninth place in the Premier League table after six consecutive league defeats, according to NBC Sports. Caretaker manager Calum McFarlane described the injury as a sad end to a massive moment for the player. Derry previously made senior appearances in the FA Cup against Wrexham and Hull City earlier this season.
