Chester appoint Phil Parkinson as new manager

Football

Chester have appointed the former Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson on a two-year contract following his departure from the Robins.

Chester have appointed Phil Parkinson as their new manager on a two-year deal. The 43-year-old manager joins the club after a seven-year tenure at Altrincham. During his time with the Robins, Parkinson secured two promotions and transitioned the team to a full-time professional model, according to the Chester Standard. He also guided Altrincham to the National League play-offs during the 2023-24 season.

Parkinson shares the same name as the current Wrexham manager, who led Chester's rivals to consecutive promotions from the National League to League One. The new Chester boss previously played for clubs including Reading and Nantwich Town before moving into management, per Altrincham FC. His backroom staff at Chester will include assistant manager Neil Sorvel and first-team coach Phil Jevons. The appointment follows the departure of Calum McIntyre, who left the club after they failed to qualify for the National League North play-offs. Parkinson will oversee the first-team squad as they prepare for the 2026-27 campaign.
