Chelsea Women to play all matches at Stamford Bridge

Football

Chelsea have announced that Stamford Bridge will become the permanent home for their women's team from the start of the 2024-25 season.

Chelsea Women will play all home fixtures at Stamford Bridge from the beginning of next season. The move follows a record-breaking year for the team, which previously played most home matches at Kingsmeadow in Kingston upon Thames. According to the club, the transition reaffirms an intent to become the biggest women's sports club in the world.

The decision covers all Women's Super League matches and any European fixtures. Chelsea played seven games at the 40,000-capacity stadium during the 2023-24 campaign, including four league matches and three Champions League ties. Per Sky Sports, the club believes the move will provide a better environment for supporters and players.

Chief operating officer Jason Gannon stated that the switch is a significant step in the long-term growth of the team. The club will continue to use Kingsmeadow for academy matches and certain cup ties when necessary. This permanent relocation marks a shift in the domestic game, as reported by The Guardian, following similar moves by other top-flight clubs.
