Celtic target domestic double in tense season finale

Martin O'Neill's Celtic side trail Hearts by three points in the league and face Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final.

Celtic remain in contention for two domestic trophies as the 2025-26 season enters its final weeks. The Glasgow club currently occupies second place in the Scottish Premiership, trailing leaders Heart of Midlothian by three points with three matches remaining. Recent results have narrowed the field to a two-horse race after third-placed Rangers fell seven points behind the leaders following a 2-1 defeat at Tynecastle, per the Associated Press.

Martin O'Neill, who returned to manage the club in January, guided the team to the Scottish Cup final with a 6-2 extra-time victory over St Mirren. Celtic will meet Dunfermline Athletic at Hampden Park on 23 May 2026 to decide the trophy, according to the Scottish FA.

Despite the potential for success, the club is reportedly preparing for a summer squad rebuild. Celtic scouts have watched Dinamo Zagreb defender Scott McKenna and Motherwell forward Tawanda Maswanhise, per OneFootball. Midfielder Marc Leonard, currently on loan at Hearts from Birmingham City, is also said to be a primary target.
