Fabio Capello has warned that England must stop playing with fear if they are to win the upcoming World Cup. Speaking to Laureus, the Italian manager observed that the squad often arrives at major tournaments exhausted. He noted that the mental pressure of wearing the national shirt appears to weigh heavily on the players, per The Guardian.
Capello, who managed England between 2008 and 2012, suggested that head coach Thomas Tuchel faces a significant challenge. The German took over the role earlier this year following the departure of Gareth Southgate. Capello believes the quality in the squad is sufficient for success, but the physical demands of the domestic season often hinder performance on the international stage.
England last won the World Cup in 1966 and reached the final of the last two European Championships. According to Sky Sports, Capello remains convinced that the team's technical ability is high. However, he emphasised that the players must find a way to play with the same freedom they show for their clubs.
