Football

Andoni Iraola’s side secured a 2-1 victory at St James’ Park following the head coach’s announcement that he will leave the club in May.

Bournemouth defeated Newcastle United 2-1 on Saturday to move into eighth place in the Premier League. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring after 32 minutes before William Osula equalised for the hosts in the second half. Adrien Truffert secured the win with an 85th-minute strike, extending the unbeaten run for the visitors to 13 matches, according to NBC Sports.

The result followed the official announcement on 14 April 2026 that head coach Andoni Iraola will depart at the end of the season. Iraola, 43, is ending a three-year tenure during which he guided the club to a record 56 points in the 2024-25 campaign.

Speaking before the match, Iraola stated his decision to leave was not influenced by any other club and that he remains undecided on his next role, per The Guardian. Sky Sports reports that RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose has reached an agreement to succeed Iraola at the Vitality Stadium this summer.
