Conor Hourihane will depart his role as Barnsley head coach at the conclusion of the current season by mutual agreement.

Barnsley have announced that head coach Conor Hourihane is to leave the club following the final match of the 2025-26 campaign. The decision comes by mutual consent between the coach and the board of directors, according to Barnsley FC. Hourihane initially rejoined the South Yorkshire side in June 2024 in a player-coach capacity before transitioning into the lead coaching role.

The former Republic of Ireland international made 170 appearances for the Tykes during two previous spells as a player. During his tenure as head coach, he oversaw the club's efforts in League One as they sought promotion back to the Championship. The club stated that the search for a permanent successor will begin immediately to prepare for the upcoming season, per Sky Sports.

Hourihane expressed his gratitude to the supporters and staff for their backing during his time at Oakwell. The 35-year-old remains a popular figure at the club having captained them to victory in the Football League Trophy and the League One play-offs in 2016.
