CD Colunga goalkeeper Angel Mateos Gonzalez is prepared to become the oldest footballer to play in an official Spanish match aged 70.

Angel Mateos Gonzalez is set to appear for CD Colunga against CD Praviano in the Spanish fifth tier on Sunday. The goalkeeper, who is 70 years old, will become the oldest player to feature in an official match in Spain, according to AS. Gonzalez previously played for CD Colunga before retiring at the age of 35.

He returned to training with the squad in January to maintain fitness and agreed to register as a player following injuries to the first-choice goalkeepers. The veteran is expected to start the final match of the Tercera Federacion season, per Marca. He currently trains twice a week with the first team in Asturias.

Gonzalez will surpass the previous record held by Robert Carmona, who played in the lower divisions of Spanish football at 61. CD Colunga currently occupies mid-table in Group 2. The club confirmed Gonzalez is in the correct physical condition to compete in the Tercera Federacion fixture this weekend.
