Former Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey will participate in the London Marathon on Sunday following his recent retirement from professional football. Ramsey is running to raise money for charity in memory of Hugh Menai-Davis, who died of a rare form of cancer in 2021 at the age of six, according to Sky Sports. Hugh was the son of Ramsey's close friend, Ceri Menai-Davis.
Ramsey intends to support the charity It's Never You, which provides aid to parents of children diagnosed with cancer. The former Arsenal and Juventus player told The Guardian that the cause is very close to his heart. He noted that the endurance challenge marks a significant transition from his career on the pitch.
Organisers expect more than 50,000 runners to join the event across the capital. Ramsey joins several other former professional athletes in the mass-participation race. His involvement aims to increase awareness for the difficulties faced by families dealing with childhood illnesses, per reports from the London Marathon official media channels.
