Brighton striker Danny Welbeck has extended his stay at the Amex Stadium by triggering a 12-month extension in his current deal. The former England international is now contracted to the Sussex club until the end of the 2026-27 season. This development follows a period of significant form for the 35-year-old forward under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.
Welbeck originally signed a two-year contract in May 2024, which included the option for a further year based on specific performance criteria. According to Sky Sports, the striker reached the necessary milestones earlier this season to automatically activate the clause. He has become a focal point of the Brighton attack, contributing six goals in his first nine league appearances of the current campaign.
Technical director David Weir previously praised the forward's influence on the younger members of the squad. Welbeck joined the Seagulls as a free agent in 2020 after leaving Watford, per The Athletic. He has since scored 32 goals in more than 130 appearances for the club.
