Torquay United appointed Neil Warnock as interim manager following the dismissal of Paul Wotton, the club announced on Sunday. The decision came after the Gulls suffered a 5-0 defeat at home to Chelmsford City in the National League South. Wotton leaves the club after nine months in the role, having joined from Truro City in May 2024.
Warnock, 77, returns to the dugout in a caretaker capacity while the board seeks a permanent successor. The veteran manager previously served as a football consultant at Plainmoor during the previous season, according to Torquay United. His appointment follows a period of poor form for the Devon side, who currently sit tenth in the league table.
Torquay confirmed that recruitment for a full-time replacement will begin immediately. Warnock is expected to lead the team for their upcoming fixture against Slough Town on Tuesday. The club thanked Wotton for his efforts during his tenure, per Sky Sports. Assistant manager Henrik Jensen also departed the club alongside Wotton.
