Captain Angharad James states Wales have a first Women's World Cup in their sights as qualifying begins against the Czechs on Tuesday.

Wales Women travel to the Czech Republic to begin their qualification campaign for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Rhian Wilkinson’s side aim to secure a place in their first-ever major global tournament. Captain Angharad James said the squad has the event in its sights following previous near misses in qualification cycles.

The fixture takes place in Chomutov as the opening match of the group stage. Wales previously reached the play-offs for the 2023 tournament but suffered a narrow defeat to Switzerland. James noted that the group is now more experienced and better prepared for the challenges of the international calendar, according to FAW.cymru.

Wilkinson has selected a 25-player squad for the double-header, which also includes a home match against Iceland later this week. The manager emphasised the importance of a strong start to build momentum in a competitive group. Wales currently sit 30th in the FIFA world rankings, while their opponents are positioned 28th, per Sky Sports.
