Wales will play its autumn home matches at the Cardiff City Stadium, despite recent discussions regarding a potential move to the Principality Stadium. The Football Association of Wales (FAW) confirmed the decision following consultations regarding venue suitability for upcoming fixtures. Recent reports from Sky Sports suggested the 74,500-capacity national stadium was under consideration as a venue prior to the Euro 2028 tournament.
The national side has utilised the 33,280-seater Cardiff City Stadium as its primary home since 2011. According to the Guardian, the atmosphere at the smaller venue is a significant factor in the decision to remain. Moving to the larger Principality Stadium would have required a temporary return to a grass surface over the existing hybrid pitch, per FAW officials.
Wales last played at the Principality Stadium in a friendly against Spain in 2018. The upcoming autumn schedule includes Nations League matches against Turkey and Montenegro. Supporters had expressed mixed views on a potential move, but the FAW intends to maintain the current arrangement for the foreseeable future.
