Wales midfielder David Brooks is determined to feature in the 2026 World Cup after illness prevented his participation in the 2022 tournament. The AFC Bournemouth player received a diagnosis of Stage II Hodgkin lymphoma in October 2021. He underwent several months of treatment before receiving the all-clear in May 2022, according to the Football Association of Wales.
Brooks returned to competitive action for Bournemouth in March 2023. He spent the latter half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Southampton, where he helped the club secure promotion to the Premier League. The 26-year-old has since rejoined Bournemouth for the current campaign, per Sky Sports.
Wales currently sits in the qualifying positions for the upcoming international tournament. Brooks has earned 29 caps for the national side and scored three goals since his debut in 2017. He remains a regular part of the squad under the current management as the team organises its path to the finals in North America, per Transfermarkt.
