Aaron Ramsey has retired from professional football, ending a career that spanned nearly two decades. The Wales captain ends his playing days with immediate effect, according to Sky Sports. Ramsey made 511 club appearances and earned 86 caps for his country. He scored 21 goals for Wales and played in three major tournaments, including the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
Ramsey began his career at Cardiff City before moving to Arsenal in 2008. He spent 11 seasons in north London, winning three FA Cups and scoring the winning goal in the 2014 and 2017 finals. Following his time at Arsenal, he played for Juventus, Rangers, and Nice before returning to Cardiff City in 2023.
The midfielder confirmed his decision via a social media statement on Tuesday, per The Guardian. Ramsey noted that his body could no longer meet the demands of the professional game. He ends his final season at Cardiff City having made 13 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.
