Gianni Infantino says US President Donald Trump will allow Iran to compete in the 2026 World Cup despite the ongoing war between nations.

United States President Donald Trump has confirmed that Iran are welcome to participate in the upcoming World Cup, according to Fifa president Gianni Infantino. The two nations are currently at war, but the Fifa head stated that football must remain a bridge between people. Infantino met with the president to discuss logistics for the tournament, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will host.

Trump reportedly told Infantino that all qualified teams will receive the necessary visas to enter the country. Fifa has historically maintained that sport should remain separate from political conflicts. Infantino noted that the president expressed a desire to see a successful competition.

The 2026 World Cup is the first to feature 48 teams across North America. Iran secured their place in the finals after successful qualification rounds in Asia. Fifa officials are working with local organisers to ensure security for all visiting delegations during the event, per Reuters. The tournament begins in June across 16 host cities, with the final scheduled for New York New Jersey, according to Fox Sports.
