Sudan has qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), offering a beacon of hope to a country ravaged by ongoing civil war. The tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has led to a severe humanitarian crisis across Sudan.

Forward Abobaker Eisa stated that the team's involvement in Afcon is "bringing hope" and a sense of "pride and joy" to the nation. He added that the civil war has served as a significant motivating factor for the squad.

Sudan's domestic football league remains suspended due to the conflict, forcing top clubs to compete in foreign leagues. The national team has not played a home fixture since March 2023. Coach Kwesi Appiah expressed confidence in the team's ability to progress beyond the group stage, where they will face Algeria in their opening match.
