Sheff Wed finances secure for season completion

Football

Sheffield Wednesday's administrators have confirmed the club possesses sufficient funds to complete the current football season.

Joint administrators Julian Pitts, Kris Wigfield, and Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor, appointed on 24 October 2025, stated the club has the necessary finances. Sheffield Wednesday entered administration after operating at a loss for several years, with former owner Mr Chansiri previously covering deficits. Falling revenues and a withdrawal of financial support led to the club's administration.

Administration aims to rescue and protect the club, securing new, stable ownership. A consortium, led by James Bord and Felix Roemer, holds preferred bidder status. This group has provided evidence of funding for a proposed £30m-plus purchase and three years of operating costs. The English Football League is currently assessing the source of this funding, particularly regarding gambling proceeds. The club faced multiple embargoes and points deductions during the 2025-26 season.
