Senegal's Football Federation (FSF) will parade the Africa Cup of Nations trophy before a friendly match against Peru in Paris on Saturday. FSF president Augustin Senghor described the decision to strip Senegal of the title as a "robbery," according to Reuters. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently awarded the 2025 championship to Morocco following a dispute over player eligibility during the tournament finals.
Senghor stated that the team remains the rightful champions in the eyes of the Senegalese people. The federation confirmed the trophy will be displayed at the Stade Sebastien Charlety to honour the players' performance. This decision follows an unsuccessful appeal by the FSF to the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding the eligibility ruling, per reports from The Guardian.
Morocco was declared the official winner of the 2025 edition earlier this month. Despite the official standings, Senegal players intend to participate in the scheduled ceremony before kick-off. The match against Peru serves as a preparation fixture for upcoming World Cup qualifiers, according to ESPN.
