Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has completed the first of two scheduled surgeries to address a persistent shoulder injury.

Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel said the first of two planned shoulder surgeries went well as he begins a recovery process aimed at extending his career. The 39-year-old veteran underwent the initial procedure on Tuesday to repair long-standing damage. According to Celtic, the Danish international requires two separate operations to fully resolve the issue.

Schmeichel signed a one-year contract with the Scottish champions in July 2024. He has been a regular starter for the Glasgow club this season but now faces a significant period on the sidelines. The club has not provided a specific timeline for his return to first-team action.

Per Sky Sports, the former Leicester City captain is determined to return to fitness before his current deal expires. The second stage of the surgical process will take place following a period of initial rehabilitation. Celtic staff are monitoring his progress as the team continues its title defence. The goalkeeper previously indicated that these procedures are necessary to continue playing at a professional level.
