The 78-year-old manager has returned to professional football to lead the Championship side, marking 50 years in management.

Roy Hodgson has returned to football management at the age of 78 to take charge of Bristol City. The former England manager replaces Liam Manning at Ashton Gate, according to Sky Sports. The appointment comes as Hodgson celebrates 50 years since he first began his coaching career with Halmstad in 1976.

Hodgson previously managed Crystal Palace in the Premier League before stepping down in February 2024. He has held positions at 17 different clubs across eight countries and coached four national teams, per The Guardian. Bristol City currently sit in the middle of the Championship table following a run of inconsistent results.

The veteran coach is the oldest person to manage a professional club in the top two tiers of English football. Club officials confirmed Hodgson signed a contract until the end of the 2025-26 season. His first match in charge will be against Coventry City following the international break, according to official club communications. He task is to stabilise the squad and push for a top-ten finish.
