Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has cast doubt on the future of Derek Cornelius after the defender was released early for international duty.

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl has admitted uncertainty regarding the future of Derek Cornelius at the club. The Canadian centre-half is currently on loan from Marseille but has been training alone recently, according to Sky Sports. Rohl confirmed that the club has released the 28-year-old early to join the Canada national squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

Cornelius joined the Glasgow side on a season-long loan deal in 2024. However, he has struggled to maintain a consistent place in the starting line-up under Rohl. The head coach stated that the player's recent training situation and early departure for international duty raise questions about his direction at the club.

Per reports from The Athletic, Rangers have not yet triggered any option to make the defender's move permanent. Cornelius has made 15 appearances during the current campaign. His parent club, Marseille, remains in contact regarding his status. The defender's contract with the French side runs until June 2028, but his tenure in Scotland appears increasingly unlikely to extend beyond May.
