Rival fans back Liverpool ticket price protests

The Football Supporters' Association says Liverpool fans protesting against a 2 percent ticket price rise deserve wider support.

Liverpool supporters' groups removed flags from the Kop during a recent Europa League fixture to protest a 2 percent rise in season ticket and matchday prices. The Football Supporters' Association (FSA) stated that no fan should be priced out of following their club, per Sky Sports. The organisation urged supporters from rival clubs to back the action to prevent similar increases across the Premier League.

Rising costs affect loyal match-going fans who provide the atmosphere at grounds. Spirit of Shankly, a Liverpool supporters' union, argued that the club did not consult them properly before announcing the changes for the 2024-25 season. The group met with club officials to discuss the matter but maintained its opposition to the increase, according to The Guardian.

Premier League clubs recently agreed to a cap on away ticket prices, but home prices remain at the discretion of individual teams. The FSA warned that consistent rises could lead to a generational gap in stadium attendances if younger fans cannot afford tickets.
