Christian Purslow, the former chief executive of Aston Villa and Chelsea, has criticised the Premier League for its handling of the London club. Purslow told reporters that he believes the league was extremely lenient regarding its recent punishment of Chelsea men's team for financial irregularities, per Sky Sports. The comments follow an investigation into historical financial reporting during the tenure of the previous ownership group.
Chelsea self-reported potential financial breaches to the league and UEFA after a change in ownership. This cooperation resulted in a fine rather than a points deduction, which Purslow argued does not align with the treatment of other clubs. According to The Guardian, Purslow suggested that the penalty lacks the severity seen in recent cases involving Everton and Nottingham Forest. Both of those clubs received points deductions for breaching profitability and sustainability rules. Chelsea currently sits in the middle of the Premier League table as it continues to restructure under its current sporting directors and management.
