Pollok United received the gold award for Best Grassroots Club at the 2023-24 UEFA Grassroots Awards. The Glasgow-based club operates from Dennis Canavan Centre and caters to more than 800 players across various age groups. It provides opportunities for men, women, and youth players while focusing on local community integration, according to the Scottish FA.
The club manages a wide range of social initiatives alongside its footballing activities. These programmes include mental health support groups, sessions for refugees and asylum seekers, and walking football for older participants. UEFA representatives praised the organisation for its inclusive environment and its impact on the Southside of Glasgow, per Sky Sports.
Pollok United is the first Scottish club to win the top prize in this category. The award recognises organisations that demonstrate excellence in providing footballing opportunities for all, regardless of ability or background. Club officials accepted the honour during a ceremony highlighting the importance of non-professional sports organisations in Europe.
