Poland's Ekstraklasa sees rise in fan interest

Football

The Polish top flight has experienced a significant increase in attendance and commercial growth over recent seasons.

Poland's Ekstraklasa has reported a sharp increase in match attendance, with average crowds reaching record levels for the 2023-24 season. According to Ekstraklasa SA, the league surpassed 3.7 million total spectators during that campaign. This growth follows a period of infrastructure development, including the construction of modern stadiums for clubs like Pogon Szczecin and Wisla Plock.

Commercial revenues have also risen, with the league securing improved domestic television rights deals with Canal+ Polska. Per Ekstraklasa reports, the current broadcasting agreement is valued at approximately 1.3 billion zloty. This financial stability has allowed clubs to invest more in training facilities and youth academies.

International interest in the league has grown as well. According to The Guardian, the division has moved away from its previous reputation for defensive football, instead promoting a more attacking style. Jagiellonia Bialystok secured their first league title in 2024, reflecting a trend of increased competition at the top of the table. The league currently sits 18th in the UEFA coefficient rankings.
