The Republic of Ireland men's national team faces the Czech Republic in a crucial World Cup play-off match in Prague on Thursday.

Troy Parrott is expected to lead the attack for the Republic of Ireland in their World Cup play-off against the Czech Republic. The fixture takes place at the Epet Arena in Prague on Thursday evening. Parrott enters the match following a period of regular goalscoring form for his club side, AZ Alkmaar, in the Dutch Eredivisie.

He has scored 10 goals in 26 league appearances for the Dutch club this season, according to Transfermarkt. The striker joined AZ Alkmaar from Tottenham Hotspur on a permanent deal in July 2024 for a reported fee of £6.7m, per Sky Sports. His performances in the Netherlands have established him as a key figure for Irish manager Heimir Hallgrimsson.

Ireland reached the play-off stage after finishing second in their qualifying group. The winner of this single-leg tie will progress to the final round of UEFA play-offs for a place at the 2026 World Cup. Hallgrimsson has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip, according to the Football Association of Ireland.
